Calon Lan Health and Fitness started as a mobile personal training service 5 years ago, training clients in the comfort of their own home, garden, workplace or nearby park.
I decided to study personal training to help others transform their lives after having struggled for years myself to lead a healthy lifestyle. I was overweight, unfit and extremely unhealthy throughout my twenties, I had a terrible relationship with food and alcohol and would comfort eat and drink on a daily basis.
I went to watch some colleagues take part in the Blenheim Triathlon back in 2007 and I made the decision to enter the following year and to finally do something positive to improve my health and fitness.
I hadn’t done any serious exercise for several years and I didn’t lead the healthiest of lives so I knew that I would be facing a really big challenge. I started training a few months prior to the event and the running, cycling and swimming that I did in preparation for the big day increased my confidence, improved my mood and enabled me to lose weight. I found that I was suddenly full of energy and that I was as a result more successful in work and generally a lot happier. At the same time, I started taking care of my diet and nutrition and these changes together with the sudden increase in exercise made me feel like a new person.

I loved taking part in the Triathlon and since that day I have taken part in several others triathlons as well as many road races and several cycling events. My biggest challenge came in 2011 when I entered the Brighton Marathon. It was definitely one of the hardest things I have ever done but I loved every minute of the race and the preparation. I loved running with friends in the evenings after work, running throughout the winter, through the rain, wind and even the snow, the long runs on my own on the weekends and the atmosphere in Brighton on the day. The crowds were amazing and inspired me to keep going right to the end! Crossing the finish line was one of the best feelings, a real sense of achievement!
After the marathon, I started thinking about how exercise and better nutrition had really changed my life for the better. I was more confident, full of energy and most importantly healthy for the first time in a long time. I now had a real passion for fitness and decided to study this further at the European Institute of Fitness at Lilleshall, the National Sports Centre. I graduated as Personal Trainer and since then I have made it my mission to help as many people in the Cardiff area improve their health and wellbeing and achieve their long-term fitness goals.
I am constantly frustrated by what I hear in the media and what I see on the shelves of a supermarket. There is so much conflicting information out there that it’s no wonder that people are confused about what’s best when it comes to fitness and nutrition. I see many friends and family struggling with fad diets and spending hours in the gym without achieving any results. I am therefore passionate about helping people in the Cardiff area achieve long term results through personal training, motivational coaching and nutritional education. I am eager to share my knowledge about health, fitness and nutrition with you so that you too can achieve the same long term results that I have through Calon Lan Health and Fitness.
